I Deactivated My Instagram Account. Here’s What Happened:
I deactivated my Instagram account last week.
Here’s why: I published an objective article called Three Trump Tactics to Build Your Brand after attending a conservative event where Trump spoke—and people lost their minds.
Could I have smoothed things over? Sure. A quick apology tour, some carefully crafted PR fluff, and everything would’ve been fine.
But the truth is, I’m not sorry.
Because here’s the thing: I’m fascinated by the tactics and strategies people use to get what they want—regardless of whether I support their mission. And I’m going to keep investigating them (and, writing about them).
Instagram isn’t built for real conversations. There’s no room for healthy debate. No space for actual discussion. It’s a breeding ground for outrage and a cesspool of cancel culture where the loudest voices drown out the most thoughtful ones.
So I hit the big red button, and let Instagram go.
What’s happened since I deactivated my Instagram, you ask? 🧐
Day 1: I kept opening my phone out of habit, ready to scroll. No app to scroll. My brain was like: “...What do we do now?”
Turns out, without social media, you get a lot of free time.
And instead of wasting it scrolling, I started thinking. Dangerous, I know.
I thought about:
How I’m building my email list without Instagram.
What’s on my website. And why I’m paying $72 a year for it to collect dust.
What I actually want to work on.
Dropping Instagram was like quitting a part-time job—except it wasn’t paying me. So I lost… nothing.
I’m one week in, here’s what’s going on now: I’m working out the deets on how to build my email list without social media, what to do about my website — and I had enough mental bandwidth to take on a YouTube project I’d turned down before. Big learning curve. Huge paycheck.
So here’s what you’ll see from me next:
How I’m building my email list without relying on social media.
What I’m doing to make my website actually pull its weight.
The strategy I’m using to blow my client up on YouTube.
No more chasing algorithms or wasting time.
Just doing what works—and sharing it with you.
XO
Kass
PS: Thanks for all the supportive responses to my last email. They lifted me up during a time where things felt heavy.
“Keep doing what you’re doing Kass. It’s people in the middle like you and I that have the opportunity to bring extremes closer to together. I’m by your side every step of the way and ready to make ripples and waves in 2025.”
“Wow. I'm not surprised. The people who attacked me on Instagram never bought anything from me. I'm sorry this happened to you. I support you going and talking to all kinds of people and learning what strategies they do right.”
“I thought your article about 3 takeaways from Trump was fascinating and to point out I happen to be a Trump fan/follower and realized you might not be. But that wasn’t the point of your article. If I read it right you suggested we take the best and whatever is good from anyone point of view. I respect that. I’m sorry you lost so many followers but I agree they weren’t your friends.”
